No eBook for A Memory of Light until April

According to Tor's blog* the ebook version of A Memory of Light will be released on April 9, 2013.

It's a little weird that the post is entitled, "A Memory of Light Ebook Release Date Confirmed". Who did Tor confirm it with? Itself?

It's lame. And stupid. Fine, I get that you first release the hardcover and cash in on those too to eager to wait for the paperback.

But we have entered the age of Kindle now. A Kindle is a ter'angreal that contains books and can connect to another world called Amazon where, if you have your wits about you, you can get more books.

I have owned Wheel of Time in paperback, given it away, bought it again, bought a few books in hardcover and given those away, once read, too.

These days I only buy physical books if I walk into a bookstore, which I try to avoid because I always walk out with books. There is little risk I'll be tempted to buy a book by Jordan, though, because they are HUGE. My carpal tunnel flares up holding them close enough to read.

I am willing to buy the ebook at hardcover price. I'd just finished Towers of Midnight when A Memory of Light was released. I am willing, eager and able. But alas.

Perhaps the blog post explains the reasoning. I didn't bother to read it. Perhaps Tor was afraid that the electronic book would be pirated.

Some Dude with way too much time on his hands scanned, OCRed, proof-read, reformatted, spell-checked and shared his hardcopy on the internet.

You got that right, he didn't settle for a gigantic PDF of scanned pages, he created a properly formatted mobi.

There were versions available as early as January 10, 2013, two days after the release. You can find a copy at your favorite bittorrent site.

Numerous wrists around the world thank you, Some Dude.
