regretting admitting fault

regretting admitting fault
because the next words
will be the sledge used to
hammer the crack open wider

explanations are crushed
blow by blow
attempts at honesty stricken

you shame me with a judgment
delivered in simplistic wisdom
of choices, don't you ever
grow tired of proverbs?

regretting admitting fault
because of the anger that flares
you refuse to lead by example
and yet you refuse to understand

that the anger that's not your fault,
not your problem, not your choice
I am asking you to forgive
my missteps like I do yours

regretting saying anything at all
because of the cost of dignity
when you'll say you don't
remember what I'm on about
